Parents Super Visa Canada stay period extended by IRCC: Latest Updates Parents and Grandparents with Super Visa can now stay longer in Canada according to IRCC’s significant reforms in 2022.

Parents Super Visa Canada allows family members to reunite and spend time together. Keeping the family values of Canadian citizens, the country has enhanced the Super Visa Program which allows PGP candidates to stay with their families in Canada for a longer time.

Canada has extended the time period of Super Visa holders to 5 years. The PGP permanent residence applications are far more than the spots available.

Parents and Grandparents Super Visa Reforms

The reforms in the Parents Super Visa Canada are as follows:

  • Parents and Grandparents can stay for 5 years with a Super Visa every time they immigrate to the country.
  • If you currently have a Super Visa, you can request a 2-year extended stay while living in Canada. This concludes that Grandparents Super Visa candidates can stay in Canada for seven years in a row.
  • It is anticipated that Canada’s Immigration Minister will provide medical coverage to Canada’s Super Visa applicants through international medical insurance companies.

Super Visa candidates currently can stay for two years in Canada per entry. Canadian Super Visa is valid for 10 years.

IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada) has not announced more details about the medical insurance, for now, only Canadian medical insurance companies can provide coverage to the Grandparents Super Visa immigrants.

Conservative Party of Canada, Kyle Seeback who is a Member of Parliament proposed these reforms via Bill C-242. IRCC released a press which indicates, that Canada’s ruling Liberal Party will vote in favour of Bill C-242. The Political Party of Canada supports the reforms in the program.

In a recent report, IRCC mentioned that Canada issues around 17,000 Super Visas per year. IRCC offers Super Visa as a substitute for the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) for over 10 years.

Parents Super Visa Canada offers permanent residence to immigrants, but the number of spots is lesser than the demand to sponsor immigrants. IRCC received an interest form of 200,000 sponsors but offered the spots for only 20,000 PGP candidates.

In the past, IRCC allowed temporarily interest forms for the PGP immigrants, and then extended the invitations of PGP candidates for Permanent Resident (PR) through lotteries. IRCC is yet to reveal its plan for the Parents and Grandparents Program in 2022.
