Fraser introduces new updates to modernize Canadian Immigration Immigration Minister Fraser announced on September 1 that he intends to upgrade client experience and minimize the backlogs with the latest online services in Canadian Immigration.
Modernization in the Immigration system is highlighted due to the Pandemic. Fraser announced from the IRCC’s center in Nova Scotia and New Waterford, how digitization affects several operations at IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada).
Candidates exempt from medical exams
Fraser has decided to exempt temporary and permanent resident applicants living in Canada from the medical exam requirement.
The above measure is applicable to the candidates meeting certain criteria, however, the criteria have not yet been specified. IRCC says that this measure will impact around 18,000 newcomers to Canadian Immigration.
Moreover, according to the release, this measure will help to hire 1,250 employees to increase the processing capacity and intends to reduce the wait times.
A) 100% digital Canadian Immigration applications
On September 23, IRCC will accept 100% digital Canadian Immigration applications for most PR (Permanent Residence). Candidates who need accommodations will be offered alternative formats.
Furthermore, in the past January, the IRCC department decided to make the application procedure digital. However, IRCC expects to fully implement the digital application portal in the summer of 2022.
B ) Status tracker for Permanent Resident applications
Seven more temporary residence and permanent residence programs will have the status trackers by spring 2023 just like it was launched for partner and spousal child sponsorship applicants in February.
Furthermore, the citizenship application trackers launched for the clients in May 2021, will expand to include representative access this month.
In addition, IRCC is working on improving the online processing tools to help you get accurate information. Besides, IRCC will release progressive estimates of application processing time.

C) Modernization in Canadian citizenship
IRCC offered a tool in August 2021, that helps to submit certain applications online. Both the groups of older candidates and adult age candidates were allowed to apply. However, IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada) wants to expand the tool for minor candidates as well by the end of the year 2022.
So far in 2022, Canada admitted over 217,000 citizens and exceeds the citizenship aim for 2021-2022. In the April and July of this year, Canada welcomed over 116,000 citizens for Canadian Immigration as compared to around 35,000 in 2021.
D ) Over 300,000 PRs for Canadian Immigration
IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada) set a record for the admission of over 405,000 permanent residents for Canadian Immigration in 2021. Now, Canada aims to welcome 431,000 new permanent residents in 2022, and it is close enough to achieve it.
So far in August 2022, Canada welcomed more than 300,000 new permanent residents in Canada and surpassed the milestone earlier in comparison to any other previous year.
