Immigration Minister Sean Fraser announced that a temporary measure will allow more than 500,000 international students in Canada to work for more than 20 hours per week.
Foreign students can also take benefit of this temporary measure if they have already given their applications for the study permit as of today and if IRCC approves their application this measure will also apply to foreign nationals.
Minister Fraser announced that this reform aims to improve the labour shortages in Canada which is extremely low and dropped to 5.2% in September.

International student 2022 Updates
At the moment, international students in Canada may work for 20 hours a week while in their study session. However, this time limit is increased for summer and winter holidays so that international students can support their necessities in Canada- said Minister Fraser.
Canada is currently facing one million job shortages due to which the government has eased the rule for the present time.
IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) had given study permits to 450,000 international students in the last year, and the demand to study in Canada is increasing due to many reasons like the educational quality of these institutions, Canadian dollar affordability, multiculturalism and the benefits of permanent residence.
Furthermore, in today’s report, Fraser said that they have processed over 4,52,012 applications for study permits in the first eight months of 2022 which resulted in an increase of 23% as compared to the year 2021.
